Thesis Statement:
The salary cap changed the sport industry and made every league stronger. Most of the major North American leagues operate with a salary cap because it makes sport more interesting. John Sedgwick, the Director of Legal Affair of the Montreal Canadian hockey team, argues that any team can win a title. It is just a matter of time with the right players. “The salary cap narrows the playing field, it should force team to be better managed. The cap should give teams who never won a better chance.” The salary cap levels the playing field and allows any team to succeed due to clubs having the same amount to spend on players. However, the cap affects the athletes because it puts a higher standard on their performance; they must work harder if they want a higher pay. The high standards of the athletes benefits the league because fans are more likely going to enjoy the games. Many leagues outside of North America like the Australian Football League and the European Football League, also operates with a salary cap; however, has different rules and regulations.
Personal insight
The salary cap is an important form in the sport industry. After reading many articles and hearing different opinions from experts, I came to a conclusion that the salary cap has been a great impact not only in the major leagues but also with individual players. Football is the sport the Americans look up to and it once lacked actions. “Read from a contemporary vantage point, one in which professional football is not only America’s most popular sport but its last bastion of mass culture, the idea that NFL games were perceived as “dull” seems like blasphemy.” Without the salary cap, the sport would not be as successful as it is today. With the set rules of the salary cap, leagues are now healthier and has higher expectation with the playing field. The players' standards are very high, especially the superstars; they are expected to perform on a higher level. Overall, the salary cap is way to keep the audience excited and satisfy. It is what is best for every league that operates with the cap.
